Elizabeth Gaskell Walking Tour
With Kate Dibble
Join us as we take a tour of Elizabeth Gaskell’s Manchester. Look at the many connections she had in Manchester, through visits to buildings connected with her, and readings from her books. We’ll travel by bus to Plymouth Grove, South Manchester, where she lived for 15 years and where she wrote many of her novels. Her home has been beautifully restored – it feels just as if she has stepped out for five minutes, so on this tour we truly step back in time, to a middleclass household in the mid-1800s. Sit in her drawing room, pick books off the shelf in the study, and hear stories about her busy life, her visitors, her writing and her Manchester.
