The unique grace and power of Gluck’s sublime score will be fully revealed in this concert performance. Soloists Alice Coote (Orfeo), Fflur Wyn (Euridice) and Daisy Brown (Amor) join the Orchestra of Opera North under the baton of Principal Guest Conductor Antony Hermus, in Gluck’s reworking of the Orpheus myth.
The beauty and directness of the music pierces the heart throughout: in the terror of Orfeo’s encounter with the Furies; in the tenderness of the pastoral scenes; and, above all, in Orfeo’s celebrated lament for his lost love, ‘Che farò senza Euridice?’ (‘What is life without Euridice?’).
