HelloYour basket is empty. My Basket
Join us for the festive treat of the year! It’s the Santa Train coming to town!
Voted one of the best ten grottos in Greater Manchester in 2010, the Santa Specials return once again to the East Lancashire Railway.
Climb aboard and soak up the magical atmosphere as the train chugs gently across the winter wonderland from Bury to Ramsbottom and return. With all the smells and sounds of a heritage steam train, it’s a ride back in time that will capture your imagination and bring back childhood memories.
Get into the festive spirit and meet Santa and his helpers who will be making their way through each carriage to hand out a present to each child and a mince pie and festive drink to the adults.
The railway comes alive with twinkling lights, a walk-through grotto lit by over 200 Christmas tress, beautifully decorated vintage carriages, live brass bands, traditional Christmas carols and costumed characters. It’s a Christmas steam adventure waiting for you to climb aboard
*Please note it is not possible to join the train at any other station.
The Santa Special trains depart from Bury Station and the trip takes up to one hour.
Discounted tickets are available for 26 and 27 November: £10.50 per adult, £8.50 per child, £6.50 per unseated under 3.

however Bury station car park has limited space and fills up very quickly.
Park & Ride
Avoid delays by parking at our large Heywood car park and catch the shuttle train to Bury Station. Please note that all Santa Special services start at Bury and not Heywood so allow extra time for your journey. The Heywood Shuttle departures allow sufficient time to visit the walk-through grotto and souvenir shop at Bury station before the Santa Special train departs. No advanced booking is required for the Heywood Shuttle.
